Abandoned Architecture :

No matter where you travel to in Ireland, you are bound to find old ruins.   This is partly due to the fact that the country has been around for many centuries, and there are so many abandoned castles, churches and monasteries going way back in history.   Then there are the more recent ruins, houses abandoned because the family have died out and there were no descendants, houses damaged in bad storms and they were too costly to repair,  or simply because there was no more use for them.   Here are a few such buildings.

These are wonderful! I love seeing sights from different countries so I can step outside of my box if only for a moment.

We holiday often in West Cork and my favourite thing is to drive by an old ruined house and imagine the life that lived there.

Sad and intriguing. Joan you may be aware of the website ‘Abandoned Ireland’ which explores some of the grander buildings that have been just left to nature over the years.
