Floral Friday : Hydrangeas

At Bantry House & Gardens

This shrub is known as the Hydrangea macrophylla normalis , or lacecap Hydrangea, and grows well in shade and flowers for a long period in late summer.  It is from the same family as the well known mophead variety, which can change colour from blue to pink in the garden, depending on the type of soil it grows in.  I have the mophead in my garden, and it is leaning more towards the blue shades, which means I have acidic soil, though being a bit of an amateur gardener, I am not sure if this is a good or bad thing – weeds don’t seem to mind anyway!
