On an Irish Beach

On the beach

Getting their feet wet!

washed up after the storm

Anyone who lives in Ireland, or who has visited, knows that the weather can change – very suddenly!  As I write this the wind is howling outside and the rain is lashing against the windows.  As a contrast, these photos were taken this morning, at Harbour View near Kilbrittain, west Cork.    We were on our way back from a wedding in Rosscarbery, and even though I was feeling a bit under the weather delicate (maybe from the dancing /drinking till the early hours) the walk along the beach, watching the horses, and a few people walking their dogs,  soon brightened up the day!   There was even a bench conveniently close by to have a rest and admire the view.

A seat to enjoy the view

Garretstown in Winter

Garretstown beach, beyond Kinsale, is a very long sandy beach, perfect for a brisk walk at any time of the year, and is a favourite place for surfing.  There is a surf school there, and always kite surfers in the water, or on the beach, preparing to get on the water.   Today was quite windy, perfect for the kite surfers, and there were a few of them making the most of the weather, as well as plenty people walking the kilometre long beach.     Here are some photos from today.

Irish Beaches on a Windy Saturday: A Word a Week Challenge : Wind

These photos were taken a few months ago on Clonea Strand near Dungarvan in Co Waterford.   As you see the beach was fairly deserted, may have had something to do with the fact that the wind was blowing straight in from the sea, and it looked like it was about to rain.

I like being by the sea, but prefer it on a calm day, when the sun is shining!
