Another Peek at the V & A

Some of the casts on display

In the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, one of the larger exhibitions are those of the cast courts.   These house a collection of plaster casts of some of the most famous sculptures in the world, to educate and entertain people, and give people an opportunity to see wonderful pieces of architecture.   In the picture above (especially for the ladies) is a life size cast of David by Michaelangelo.  In fact, there are 3 Davids in the collection, and you can read about them here.   In the statue by Verrochio (original dating from about 1473), the youthful David poses over the head of Goliath, and is even wearing a little piece of clothing!

But enough about David, you can also find The Trajan Column  (original in the Forum Romanum in Rome) Neptune, Samson, the Three Graces, Caesar Invading Britain, many more, including this one, a cast of a Nymph and Deer at the Royal Palace of Fontainblue in 1494
