Weekly Photo Challenge : Landscape

Lake Kariba at sunset, Zimbabwe

My photos for this challenge were  taken at Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe, when we spent Christmas there a year ago.   The distant hills, the water of the lake, and the cloudy sky, all make it a sunset to remember, and it is the time of the evening when you grab a beer, or a gin and tonic, and sit outside and watch the ever changing landscape.

Usually the sun sets very quickly in Africa.  One minute the sun is there, and you can almost see it sinking down below the horizon, but the reflections that follow are always memorable.

Sunday Stills : Clouds

A perfect sight

A perfect sight

Clouds at sunset or sunrise turn an ordinary glow into something far more interesting, don’t you agree?

And on a warm summer’s day, a few white fluffy clouds are always welcome!

Split Second Story : Weekly Photo Challenge

ImageThis photo was taken while hiking on the hills near Glengarriff, County Cork, and it was only a split second before the shadow had moved to cover the sun!

A Word A Week Photograph Challenge : Contrast

Image

In the above photo, I particularly like the white fluffy cloud descending on the mountain, even though the sun is still shining a little.   Being out on high mountains, the clouds can gather very quickly, and then get blown away, just as quickly.

In my second photo, taken on the same day, the blue and white sheep is quite content, and doesn’t see anything wrong with having two-tone contrasting wool.    Sheep farmers mark their sheep with different colours when they send them up the mountains to graze, as a mark of identification.

Look up, Look Down Challenge – Week 21

http://travelwithintent.com/2014/01/08/night-sky-santa-maria-del-mar-barcelona/

This is my first time doing this challenge, so here goes!   Today was a beautiful spring day in Cork, the very stormy weather and driving rain have passed us by, and it has been a grand day, as we Irish say.    While driving to the shops I noticed some very nice cloud formations, and stopped to take a few photos.    About an hour later, on my way home, there was so much activity overhead, with three jets racing across the sky, and with the setting sun shining on them, it made a lovely picture.

I read that we may be able to see the Aurora Borealis tonight, at least in the north of the country, so I will be keeping an eye out for that also.

I hope you enjoy my gallery.
