My photos for this challenge Silhouette are two very different ones. The first is a stormy scene over Glengarriff in West Cork, judging by the dark clouds, the heavens were about to open, but we were safely indoors sipping a coffee and enjoying some home cooked food!
Storm clouds over Garnish Island in Glengarriff
My second photo is the Hammering Man outside the exhibition centre in Frankfurt. This sculpture is a 21 metres tall moving man, and was installed in 1991 for the opening of the exhibition centre.

Today is Holocaust Remembrance Day in this part of the world, 72 years since the closing of that terrible concentration camp, Auschwitz, Unfortunately the day came too late for the many thousands who had already died there.
We visited the Jewish cemetery in Frankfurt recently, and found it a very moving place, especially the Jewish Holocaust Memorial Wall, a very personal memorial that the city of Frankfurt has created, to honor the memory of the 12,000 Frankfurt Jewish Citizens who lost their lives during the Holocaust, including Anne, Margot and Edith Frank. The wall has the names of the Jewish people that died in the various camps, some show only the date of birth of the person, and the camp where they died, as no records were kept of the actual dates of death in these places.
Here are some photos we took during our visit.

Book Burning Memorial in Frankfurt, Germany
This plaque in the main square in Frankfurt, is a commemoration of a large book burning ceremony that took place here (and in many other parts of Germany) in May 1933, when thousands of books, believed to be “un German” were burned by the German Union of Students who supported Naziism. Today, this plaque is a sad reminder of one of the consequences of war.

Frankfurt Church Door
This is a photo of the Old St Nicholas Church in thecentre of Frankfjurt, an old 13th century church, which has survived many disasters over the centuries, including two World Wars, and is still functioning today, with lots of bells and carillons which are a big attraction for tourists.
