Girl in the Doorway

Girl in the Doorway

This is my entry this week for Norm’s Thursday Doors, it’s a photo I took of a painting I came across in a hotel on the Greek Island of Lefkas.   I think the black and white gives the scene a lot of atmosphere.

Greek church door

This is a very typical Church door in Greece, the church was a small, simple, white-washed building, in a tiny village, just big enough for the Sunday morning worshippers.

See more doors over at Norm’s page.

Travel Theme : Stillness

Greek Islands

A calm harbour

It’s a great feeling at the end of a day on the sea, to come into harbour and tie up, sit on the deck, and enjoy the stillness

Greek Islands

Boats in harbour

And even though there may be many boats, they are all tied up, and will stay where they are, bobbing gently as the waves lap around, until next morning when it’s all go again, anchors up, motors started and off for another day!

Norm’s Thursday Doors : 09 June 2016

My doors this week come from two different countries, Austria and Greece.   They are both old, ornate and have seen many people pass through them over the years.     Check out some more doors over at Norm’s Thursday Doors.

Lefkas, Greek Islands

Old drinking fountain in Lefkas, Greece

I thought that this was a perfect example of Vintage, it’s a drinking water tap in the town of Lefkas (Lefkada) in the Greek Islands,   The brass part is the head of a snake or serpent, and when you turn the tap on, the water comes out of the snake’s mouth.     When we were busy taking photos, a group of Greek men sitting outside a taverna across the street thought we were having trouble turning on the tap, and started giving us instructions,  to us it was a fascinating piece of equipment, but to them it’s just a normal everyday thing!

I am sure that the serpent and the lion is some part of Greek mythology, it might be a Chimera, which, according to Wiki:

a fire breathing three-headed monster with one head of lion, one of a snake, and another of a goat, lion claws in front and goat legs behind

Happy water drinking!!

Daily Prompt : Sky

Summer’s here, and that means (most of the time) blue skies and long evenings.   I think that’s not the case in a lot of Europe at the moment though, where it seems to be rain, rain and more rain.

Here are a few blue skies from our recent travels in Greece

Nothing moving, so it must be siesta time.

Evening Shadows in the Bay!

Sivota, Meganisi Island

Evening time in the Greek Islands

I have just been uploading my photos from a fabulous ten days in the Ionian Sea, sailing ( mainly motoring because of calm waters) around the islands of Lefkas and Meganisi.    It was all a wonderful experience, and I am very proud of the fact that I only felt seasick once, and that was during a rainy, windy and thundery night!

I will do some more posts over the next while, these are just a few shots for now, before I am off to catch up on some sleep after a long day travelling home yesterday, when everything that could go wrong did go wrong!    More on that journey later.
