Tuesdays of Texture : Week 27

Prague Praha

Charles Bridge, Prague

Charles Bridge in Prague, one of the oldest bridges there, was commissioned in 1357, and has 30 baroque statues along the length of the bridge, depicting all different people and events.   This bridge is visited by everyone that comes to Prague, and is the main thoroughfare linking both sides of the river.   Be prepared in high tourist season to be jostled and pushed along by the thousands of people on the bridge, all trying to get close to the different statues.

Thursday Doors : Day and Night

Prague Praha

Doors of Prague

Here are a few more of the very ornate Prague doors – full of pillars, statues, angels, lions and whatever else they felt like carving at the time!   My night time photo has very elaborate carvings also, but I think the bicycle wheels steal the show!

Sign in a Church in Prague

…but take the Baby with you

While visiting a very ornate Baroque church in Prague, we came across this sign at the bottom of the stairs!    I hope that the baby wasn’t left in the parking lot also!

Angels in Prague

Prague hotel

Angels and Gargoyles

Prague is a city where we found lots of sculptures, carvings, statues and magnificent buildings.   Everywhere we went, we came across another reason to stop and take a photograph – it is known as the city of 100 spires, and the old town is full of baroque buildings, Gothic churches (with lots of gold) and a medieval Astronomical Clock.   Even our hotel lobby was another example of the many carvings of Angels, Gods and Gargoyles to be found everywhere.

Have you visited?    I will be posting some of the many sights we found over the next while – my camera was worn out from the weight of all those buildings and statues!

Weekly Photo Challenge : Abstract

Prague Hotel

Looking down from above

We stayed on the 6th floor of a hotel in Prague, and this view of the chandeliers going all the way down to the ground floor, was a very intriguing design.  Lucian Freud said ‘The longer you look at an object, the more abstract it becomes, and ironically, the more real’
