Color Your World : Eggplant

Eggplants, also known as aubergines,  tend to range in shade from deep purple almost black, to a lighter shade of lilac.

Travel Theme : Cities

Cities,  like people, come in all sizes and shapes, some are inland, some are by mountains, and some by the sea.    My city of choice for this challenge is Cape Town, which is protected by the majestic Table Mountain, seen above with some cloud cover (sometimes called the tablecloth).   The city is also surrounded by the sea, in fact the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean meet  near the Cape of Good Hope, not too far from Cape Town.

The triumph and tragedy of Searching for Sugar Man – Telegraph

if you ever get a chance to see ‘Searching for Sugar Man’ watch it, it is a brilliant documentary about a great musician.

Searching for Sugar Man is a brilliant testament to the briefly glittering talents of its director and star

In 2006, an aspiring young documentary maker called Malik Bendjelloul left his job at Swedish state TV and went to Africa in search of material for his first feature. He eventually found himself in Cape Town, where a record store owner told him the story of Sixto Rodriguez, a brilliant Mexican-American singer-songwriter whose two albums, released in the early 1970s, had unexpectedly bombed in the US — but, by some magic, later found an audience in apartheid South Africa, where they sold hundreds of thousands of copies. As a consequence, Rodriguez became more popular than Elvis in the country, and inspired a generation of anti-establishment songwriters.

For years, the store owner…

Weekly Photo Challenge : Threes

On a trip to South Africa last year, we went to the Saturday Farmers’ market near Knysna.   This market is a great gathering place for all the locals, both local stall holders who sell food, flowers, vegetables, arts and crafts, jewellry, and anything else you care to mention, and the local people who come to browse and buy, and to

use the opportunity to catch up with all friends and family.

There was a great variety of food on offer, and lovely teas and coffee, but as you can see, in the end a lot of us went with the old favourite – the full Irish South African!

Cee’s Fun Photo Challenge : White and Purple

This week Cee has challenged all aspiring photographers to submit photos which are white and purple, or either colour.   I went through my photos and found a few purple ones, here they are:

The first photo is one of my walking boots and socks, abandoned after a  fairly steep walk in the Dolomites, Italy.    We stopped for lunch, and it was great to sit and relax and wiggle my toes without the constraints of boots.

These boots, and socks, were made for walking

Purple flowers always look very relaxing with the sunshine on them, and the wild flowers and bougainvillea around Lake Garda are very pleasant.

The picture below was taken at a farmers’ market in Knysna, South Africa, with some home grown aubergines (known as eggplant in some countries) and the different shapes and sizes, and the rich colour, make them very interesting.

My last photo was taken outside the Grand Canal Theatre in Dublin, where we went to see the Lion King, and thoroughly enjoyed it, in fact the audience was mostly adults when we were there, and everyone loved it.

Travel Theme : Tilted

Ailsa’s travel theme this week is Tilted, and this is my entry –

Image

This picture was taken near Camps Bay, when we were on the Open Top Bus Tour in Cape Town,  The winds coming off the Indian Ocean at this point are so strong that the trees are all tilted  – welcome relief  when the summer sun is beating down on the parked cars, and I am sure it is a prized spot at times.
