Sunday Stills : Sports/Muscle Cars

Vintage Rolls Royce

Vintage Rolls Royce

We visited a vintage fair at the weekend, and along with some lovely dresses, jewellery, hats and handbags, there was also something to keep the men interested – a display of vintage cars.    This golden Rolls Royce, from the early 70s, was immaculate and attracted many wishful glances.

Red boats stand out, especially against the grey stonework and the blue, blue sea, in Valletta Harbour, Malta.

And these red poppies are just wonderful, and remind me of summer heat.

Sunday Stills : White

I just got back from my daughter’s wedding in Valletta, Malta so of course there was a lot of white – especially the beautiful bride!  There was also a lot of partying, under sunny blue skies and with blue and turquoise seas, but for now, here are a few white boats we came across.

Sunday Stills : Clouds

A perfect sight

A perfect sight

Clouds at sunset or sunrise turn an ordinary glow into something far more interesting, don’t you agree?

And on a warm summer’s day, a few white fluffy clouds are always welcome!

Sunday Stills : Night Shots

The sun has set on the Lake

African sunsets are always striking and spectacular, especially when there are a few clouds in the skies.   This photo was taken on Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe, just as the sun sank behind the hills, and it got dark.

Landscapes in Black and White : Sunday Stills

Black and White photos can look so striking, and these are a few of mine taken around East and West Cork in Ireland.    The countryside is very lush with its ’40 shades of green’ but  in black and white it also looks good.

Sunday Stills : The Colour Brown

I came across this lovely tree house at the weekend, it fits very well for the  ‘Brown’ challenge, though I am sure in another week or so the leaves will be on the trees, and then it will be more suitable for a ‘green’ challenge.

An Interesting Tomb in Chichester

Chichester Cathedral, in the south of England,is a very interesting cathedral, with beautiful stained glass windows, and even a stained glass window designed by Marc Chagall, a Belarussian-Russian-French-Jewish artist who was born in 1887, and died in 1985 (almost made a century!)

There are quite a few tombs in the cathedral, and one that really impressed me was the ‘Arundel Tomb‘  This is the tomb of Richard Fitzalan, the 13th Earl of Arundel (1307 to 1376) and his second wife Eleanor, and he requested in his will that they be buried together without ‘pomp and ceremony’ in the Priory. They lie side by side, holding hands, and the lady is turned slightly towards her husband, who is buried in his armour.  You will notice that he has taken off one gauntlet so that he can hold his wife’s hand.   True love, and everlasting love, and at their feet are two dogs, probably family pets.

Sunday Stills Challenge : Cows

Maybe it’s because I grew up on a farm, but I do have a few photos of cows that will fit in with this week’s Challenge!

Image

Killarney National Park, Ireland

First up its Irish cows, or to be more specific, Kerry cows, taking it easy in Killarney National Park.  Sometimes, when you see cows lying down, it is said to mean that there is rain on the way, but not on this occasion, it was a lovely mild October day.

Image

The handsome girl above is an Italian model, all the Italians (cows, that is) wear a bell around their neck, probably because they roam freely on the mountainside during the summer months, and the bells help the owners locate the animals.
