Nyami Nyami: The River God

image

We are still on our holidays in the sunshine,  and last week we visited Lake Kariba,  which is fed by the Zambezi River, which flows between Zambia and Zimbabwe.   Lake Karibahttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Kariba is the world’s largest artificial lake and reservoir by volume, with an area of 5400 Sq.km.

According to legend, Nyami nyami is the ruler of water, has the body of a snake and a head like a fish, and he protects the Tonga tribes of the Zambezi valley. Today he sits on a ledge overlooking the Kariba dam wall

Water, Water Everywhere : Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge

Water is everywhere – well maybe there is not so much of it in the Sahara desert – but it is most necessary for all of us to survive.   Our doctors keep telling us to drink water, our gardens and flowers and vegetables need it to thrive and grow, and looking at rivers and lakes has a calming effect on us all.  Here are a few watery shots!

This is my entry for the Weekly Photo Challenge this week, Saturation.   All my photos for this entry were taken on our holiday in Zimbabwe, where the light and sunshine make the colours very intense….and saturated!

Weekly Photo Challenge : Unusual

In this week’s Weekly Photo Challenge, we are asked to show photos with an unusual point of view. Here are a few photos taken on the Zambezi River, in Zimbabwe, at sunset.

Zambezi Sunset

Usually the sun in Africa goes down very quickly, one minute it’s there, and the next it has disappeared over the horizon, leaving a lovely  glow on the mountains.

And nearer to home, the town of Kenmare is famous for all the brightly coloured and quaint thatched buildings.

This last picture was taken near my home a few months ago, with the sheep and young lambs enjoying the sunshine.

Weekly Photo Challenge : Change

For this week’s Weekly Photo Challenge:Change I would like to show you some photos of an African sunset, and anyone who has lived or visited Africa, knows that the sunsets there are spectacular.    These photos were taken on the Zambezi River just before the sun sank (which it does very quickly) and the sunny, hot day changed to a tropical dusk, and then a starry night.
